Katie here sharing an idea for a set of silly Valentines- perfect for the classroom. To make these Valentines, I used the materials picture below including the On My Mark stamp set, On My Mark die and the Flutter stamp set.
I trimmed panels of white card stock to 3.25 x 4.25 and adhered some washi tape at the bottom. Next I stamped the polka dot heart from the Flutter stamp set. A quick tip that I wanted to share… notice the heart on the left is a bit splotchy. It was the first time I stamped it and with large solid images, sometimes you need to condition the stamps a bit. I cleaned the ink off the stamp and roughed up the surface just a bit with a fine grit sanding block and look at the stamped image on the right- it inked up and stamped perfectly.
Next, I made a mask using thin card stock and stamped the striped heart in blue ink. I was using a post it note originally, but I noticed after a few uses, the blue ink was bleeding through- not exactly the look I was going for, so I switched to a heavier paper. One of the challenges of heavier paper is that the image that you are stamping over the masked image may have some challenges getting right up to the mask, so I used this sponge-tip tool called Fantastix to apply ink next to the mask. I found Fantastix in the ink section at JoAnn’s.
After the hearts were in place, I stamped the sentiment from the On My Mark stamp set. I also stamped and die cut the kitty also from the On My Mark stamp set and wrapped him with some embroidery floss. This is where my girls let a hand wrapping the kitty with string. A bit of washi tape on the back of the die cut will hold the string in place.
I adhered the wrapped kitties with some foam tape.
And here they are, a set of six Silly Valentines- wrapped in love, string and a bit of washi tape. The kids can add the "to" and “from" inscription on the back or near the small heart.
Well, that’s all for me today, but be sure to stop by tomorrow and every day this week for more silly Valentine inspiration.
