[Guest] Doily Circle, 3 Ways with Ashwini Rao

Hello everyone! Its Ashwini for my second (and last! Sniff!) post as a Guest Designer! Today, I am sharing a few cards using the Waffle Flower Crafts Doily Circle. This is a die that I really love, but haven't made many projects out of - so I challenged myself to use this die in a variety of ways - 3 ways in fact. So here goes -

Technique 1 - Aluminum foil

wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-01 Using aluminum foil might be an old techqniue, but it is new for me! :) Moreover, since this is such an intricate die, I learnt a thing or two about using it as well. I used double sided, thin tape to adhere the foil. wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-02 Here are a few tips (more like things I found out by trial and error!!) - * I tried the technique twice - with some wider tape and then some thinner ones. I actually found the thinner ones to be helpful, since I could remove then bit by bit, adhering the die cut as I went along. It was a bit difficult to remove the backing partially, with the wider tape. * After adhering, if you find that it hasn't stuck properly, or the foiling looks too wrinkled, don't worry! Just roll it along your die cut machine, and flatten it out. It will look gorgeous! :) * If you die cut tears, don't worry. Just stick it in the right place. When you flatten the whole piece, you won't even see it. Same with a torn piece. If you can't find the missing piece just save the negative pieces - you can cut it and adhere it in place. And no one will know!! ;) * Since the foil can be easily colored with alcohol inks, you can get make your own pretty colors to use! Supplies Used: Doily Circle, Leafy

Technique 2 - Cut it out

All you have to do is do some careful fussy cutting, and you get two pretty die cuts for your crafty projects! :) wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-03 Here are the two cards - wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-04 For this card, I also created a mask, just by cutting out a scribbled circle out of some scrap paper, which I used to apply the distress inks. I then adhered the die cuts on them. wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-05 You could trim the inner piece further and get flowers of 3 sizes to use in a project - an idea can be to color them in different or ombre colors and stack them, for a pretty look. Supplies Used: Doily Circle, A Bunch, Lacy Flower, Congrats

Technique 3 - Backgrounds using Gesso and Paints

wfc-20161031-doily-circle-3-ways-ashwini-06 For my last technique, I die cut two pieces of the die cut, then used gesso to place and adhere the pieces on a card panel. Once this dried, I used some acrylic paint to add some color and splatters, and used this as a base to make my card. I the cut out the flowers and sentiment and adhered these on the card. Supplies Used: Doily Circle, A Bunch, Monochrome I had so much fun making these projects, and I hope you had as much fun looking and gotten inspired too!! Thank you so much Waffle Flower Crafts, for having me over as a Guest Designer!

[Guest] Little Stamps Background with Monochrome Animals by Ashwini Rao

Hello everyone! Its Ashwini here. Thank you so much Waffle Flower Crafts, for having me over as a Guest Designer! I have a couple of cards today with the cute animals from the Monochrome stamp set - wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-04 I've used some pattern paper and some custom made background for these two cards. I chose all the little stamps from Waffle Flower I could find in my stash (I've used stamps from MonochromeA BunchCongrats and Lacy Flower). wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-01 I then chose a series of at least 6-8 colors for each card, choosing greens, blues and grey for the card with the zebra and pinks, yellows and grey for the one with the mice (grey makes as good a combination as black with any other color!!) and started stamping on a card panel. wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-02 Once I was done, I also stamped the cute animals and the speech bubbles + sentiments on scrap cardstock and fussy cut them. I also added a piece of torn vellum for the card with the mice, since the critters themselves are too small to draw focus on them..and the vellum would soften the background and draw the line of sight. wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-03 Finally, I covered the card base with pattern paper, and then adhered my stamped panels on them before foam mounting the critters and the sentiments, along with some wood veneer embellishments. wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-05 wfc-20161017-little-stamps-background-with-monochrome-animals-ashwini-06 Did you notice that the cards can easily be interchanged into masculine or feminine cards, based on the colors - for example, the mice card could be made to a Dad card, using the blues and greens instead of the pinks and reds! So easy!! :) Hope you liked the cards I made, and could get some inspiration from them! Thank you so much for having me over today!! Have a great day! Happy Monday, everyone! Time for some inspiration from the Challenge Team! Shelly, Laura Jane along with our guest spot winner Amina are here to share their takes on this month's Waffle Flower Challenge! Join the fun by linking your projects to our challenge too! wfc-201604-photo Marcie Sharp Products: Magical Stamp Set Lacy Flowers Die Celebrate Word Die Lacy Flower Mats Die WFC 4-11 Marcie Sharp What Marcie Says: I used the colours in the inspiration picture and channelled all the springtime vibes I could to create a pretty floral focal piece for my card. The Lacy Flower Mats Die and Lacy Flowers Die made this SO easy to do. Repeatedly stamping the thin lines from the Magical set and adding few ink splatters in a tone on tone look make a plain yellow card base a little more interesting. Finally, a bold pink sentiment draws your eye right where it needs to go and sequins give it a bit of bling. :) Daria Grushina Products: Leafy Stamp Set WFC 4-11 Daria Grushina What Daria Says: I was inspired by the gorgeous bouquet from the inspiration photo and decided to make my own... Unfortunately I do not have any umbrella die (that would look cool too)... So I just took a piece of craft cardstock to make the packaging and then colored and fussy cut lots and lots of flowers from Leafy Stamp set... Using coordinating dies would be so much faster... but they are still on my shopping list (wink) Shona Chambers Products: Awesome Word Die Congrats Stamp Set Willy Stamp Set Welcome Spring Stamp Set WFC 4-11 Shona Chambers What Shona Says: Using the tulip image as the focal point, I stamped the images in black on the card front and coloured with pencils. The word die was die-cut 3x, glued together and adhered to the card along with the rest of the sentiment. Thank you for sharing such beautiful creations with us, Ladies! We're lucky to have you! Products Leafy Stamp Set Good Stuff Die Doily Square Die

What Marcie Says: I have never snipped apart the super fun Doily Square Die because it's just so awesome as it is! After die-cutting it several times out of various colours and the main white panel, I pieced it all back together. The small star from the Good Stuff Die set was a perfect little piece to inlay into one of the circles. A sweet sentiment and some glitter along the bottom finish it off.

What Daria Says: I used Tiny Dies Trio to make my inlaid die-cutting and heat embossed Lovely bear from Tribal Bear Stamp Set. I think that is one of my all time favorite combination: craft+white+gold :)

Products Doily Square Die Perfect Word Die Congrats Stamp Set

What Shona Says: I used the Doily Square Die, along with the Perfect Word Die and stamps from the Congrats Stamp Set. I die-cut the middle diamond shape first and added a panel behind it before I die-cut the outer frame. That way the whole panel didn’t fall to pieces and turn into a jigsaw puzzle!!

[Guest Video] Celebrate Year of the Monkey - Emily Leiphart

on January 21, 2016

Hi, everyone! It's Emily here and I'm so happy to be guesting on the Waffle Flower blog today with this Chinese New Year card and video! I wanted to use the monkeys from Willy & Friends with the Christmas set Stockings and a sentiment from Congrats to show how versatile all of these sets can be. I coloured the monkeys and gift/red envelope with Copic markers and die cut them with their coordinating dies. Then I tied gold string around the red envelope, heat embossed the sentiment in gold and painted the edges of the card base with gesso. After assembling the card, I added a yellow enamel heart to the girl monkey's belly. I'll have to make a bunch more of these cuties to send out!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Ong York Tee

Using Rock My World Die Set, Good Stuff Die Set, Calendar Stamp Set, Winter Blend Inkpad
What York Tee Says: I created two of my very own one-of-a-kind stencils using Rock My World Die Set and Good Stuff Die Set. I die cut the rocks all over a 41/2"x 6" cardstock randomly and I called it Rock Tee's World. I used the Rock Tee's World stencil, a few shades of purple inks and color shine mist to create the patterned rock background for my birthday card. Then, I used the stencil created by using Good Stuff Die Set to add a little touch for my calendar. WFC- 1-18-York Tee

Isha Gupta

Using Doily Square Die, In Every Way Stamp Set, Congrats Stamp Set
What Isha Says: I used the die to make my stencil and then sponged to create an almost one layer card :) WFC-1-18-Isha Gupta

Tessa Wise

Using Tribal Pattern Die, Amazing Word Die, Tribal Bear Stamp Set
What Tessa Says: I created a stencil by cutting the Tribal Pattern Die out of acetate. Using washi tape to hold it in place, I blended ink from the Hero Arts Grape Purple Ombre ink pad over the stencil and on to the cardstock below. The stenciling left a soft pattern of the intricate design on my card. WFC-1-18-Tessa Wise

Happy Monday, everyone! Time for some inspiration from the Challenge Team! Isha, York Tee and Tessa are here to share their takes on the December Waffle Flower Challenge! Join the fun by linking your projects to our challenge too! wfc201512 Isha Gupta Products: In Every Way Stamp Set, Congrats Stamp Set, Lotus Stamp Set What Isha Says: The flowers from the In Every Way Stamp Set were made for layering! I used them to create this fun and colorful background. WFC-12-21-Isha Gupta York Tee Products: Good Stuff Stamp Set, Tribal Bear Stamp Set, Good Stuff Die, and the Winter Blend Inkpad What York Tee Says: I applied three different Stamp Layering techniques for this Christmas card – layering using two step stamping set, one layered stamping and layering of grey pigment ink with colorful dye ink. First, I used Good Stuff Stamp Set to stamp the outlines of the bottle and the solid body and lid of the bottle. Then, I stamped randomly variety shape of stars and snowflakes using different colored ink on top of each other. For second and third, I layered a white tag on top of my white card base and stamped on the layers at the same time. After finished all the stamping, I layered a grey colored tag in between. Regarding the stamping, I stamped the lined patterns from Tribal Bear Stamp set with grey pigment ink and stamped over the background with colorful dye inks and watercolor strokes. WFC-12-21-York Tee Tessa Wise Products: Notions Stamp Set, Doily Circle Stamp Set What Tessa Says: I started by stamping the doily circle with white pigment ink onto my white card base. I let it dry completely and then went over it with some light pink ink. The white ink resists the pink. Next I stamped the threads in some fun colors. Last, I added the sentiment with black ink. I embellished with a few little heart stickers to finish it off. WFC-12-21-Tessa Wise Hope you are inspired to try the stamp layering technique! Find time to create and make something today!
