[Five for Friday] Pantone Colors of the Year - Katie Gehring

on March 04, 2016

DesignTeamHeadshots-KatieGehringHello friends, Katie here. When Pantone Institute announced the two colors of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity, I was surprised. After years of Tangerine, Emerald, Merlot, and even Radiant Orchid, Rose Quartz and Serenity seemed like a bit of a departure. Here’s how Pantone explained their dual choice.   pantone-color-of-the-year-lee-eiseman-quote source At first, the colors made me think of the 1980’s Miami Vice or even Hello Kitty’s Little Twin Stars. In the first few months of 2016, I have seen these colors pop up more and more from fashion to home decor and it’s truly a color combination that is:

Inspiration from Challenge Team - January 18, 2016

Happy Monday, everyone! Time for some inspiration from the Challenge Team! Marcie, Daria and Shona are hereto share their takes on the January Waffle Flower Challenge! Join the fun by linking your projects to our challenge too!

Ong York Tee

Using Rock My World Die Set, Good Stuff Die Set, Calendar Stamp Set, Winter Blend Inkpad
What York Tee Says: I created two of my very own one-of-a-kind stencils using Rock My World Die Set and Good Stuff Die Set. I die cut the rocks all over a 41/2"x 6" cardstock randomly and I called it Rock Tee's World. I used the Rock Tee's World stencil, a few shades of purple inks and color shine mist to create the patterned rock background for my birthday card. Then, I used the stencil created by using Good Stuff Die Set to add a little touch for my calendar. WFC- 1-18-York Tee

Isha Gupta

Using Doily Square Die, In Every Way Stamp Set, Congrats Stamp Set
What Isha Says: I used the die to make my stencil and then sponged to create an almost one layer card :) WFC-1-18-Isha Gupta

Tessa Wise

Using Tribal Pattern Die, Amazing Word Die, Tribal Bear Stamp Set
What Tessa Says: I created a stencil by cutting the Tribal Pattern Die out of acetate. Using washi tape to hold it in place, I blended ink from the Hero Arts Grape Purple Ombre ink pad over the stencil and on to the cardstock below. The stenciling left a soft pattern of the intricate design on my card. WFC-1-18-Tessa Wise

Marcie Sharp

Using Doily Circle dieIn Every Way stamp set
What Marcie Says: The gorgeous Doily Circle die just BEGS to be used as a stencil. On my main panel I used a DYE ink pad to fully ink up the cardstock, saturating it completely. After die-cutting the doily from a scrap piece of cardstock, I sprayed the back of it with a temporary adhesive and placed it on the inked panel. Using a watermark pen I coloured through the 'stencil' and then discarded it and set aside the panel to dry. As it dries, the pattern appears! WFC-1-11- Marcie Sharp

Daria Grushina

Using Leafy Stamp SetWith Love Word Die
What Daria Says: For the first card, I used stencil to position and stamp dots on the back panel. It is actually a very fun and useful trick when you want to make your own polka dot pattern :) I also stamped lots of leaves from Leafy stamp set to mimic the background pattern from the January inspiration photo. WFC-1-11-Daria Grushina 2 What Daria Says: For the second one, I took a circle stencil and used it to heat emboss some circle pattern with liquid platinum embossing powder. I took for my sentiment a Waffle Flower With Love die! It is so delicate and beautiful and suits to all occasions. WFC-1-11-Daria Grushina 1

Inspiration from the Challenge Team – January 4

Happy Monday, everyone! Time for some inspiration from the Challenge Team! Annette, Shelly, and Laura Jane are here, along with our previous challenge winner Quyen Ngo to share their takes on the January Waffle Flower Challenge! Join the fun by linking your projects to our challenge too!

Annette Allen

Using: Monochrome Stamp SetDoily Square DieWilly and Friends Die WFC-1-04-Annette Allen
What Annette Says: I first die cut Waffle Flowers Crafts: Doily Square Die and then used it as a stencil. Using dabblers I added this fun colorful blend of colors. I then die cut the middle using the Doily Square Die and created a fun window almost like if you were going to create a shaker card just minus the sequins. Finishing off with rounding the corners.

Shelly Kurth

Using: In Every Way Stamp SetLoved Stamp SetTiny Wings Die WFC-1-04-Shelly Kurth
What Shelly Says: For my stenciling, I chose to make my own stencil using the Tiny Wings die. I took a piece of scrap paper and one by one placed the butterfly where I wanted it and ran it through my die cutting machine. Thus giving me my stencil.

Laura Jane

Using: Magical Stamp SetHoliday Labels: MerryIn Every Way Stamp Set; Surface - Tag Die - Scallop Add-on WFC-1-04-Laura Jane
What Laura Says: For my card I started out with a stencil made from the Tag Scallop Die. To create a "window", I inked it up with Distress Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Seedless Preserves. Then I added several snowflakes and trees, embossed in different colors, for a wintery scene. Finished it off with the Magical Die in Silver paper:)

[Guest] Quyen Ngo

Using: Bowtiful Stamp Set WFC-1-14-Guest Quyen Ngo
What Quyen Says: I used distress inks in peacock feathers and tumbled glass to sponge on a template. I then repositioned the template slightly offset and used a white gelly roll pen to trace over the spaces. After the ink was dried, I stamped the sentiment and bow image (from Waffle Flower bowtiful stamp set) in VersaFine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. As it was a simple card, to finish, I rounded the outer edges and put on some gems in random places for a little sparkle.

Inspiration from the Challenge Team – December 21

on December 21, 2015
Happy Monday, everyone! Time for some inspiration from the Challenge Team! Isha, York Tee and Tessa are here to share their takes on the December Waffle Flower Challenge! Join the fun by linking your projects to our challenge too! wfc201512 Isha Gupta Products: In Every Way Stamp Set, Congrats Stamp Set, Lotus Stamp Set What Isha Says: The flowers from the In Every Way Stamp Set were made for layering! I used them to create this fun and colorful background. WFC-12-21-Isha Gupta York Tee Products: Good Stuff Stamp Set, Tribal Bear Stamp Set, Good Stuff Die, and the Winter Blend Inkpad What York Tee Says: I applied three different Stamp Layering techniques for this Christmas card – layering using two step stamping set, one layered stamping and layering of grey pigment ink with colorful dye ink. First, I used Good Stuff Stamp Set to stamp the outlines of the bottle and the solid body and lid of the bottle. Then, I stamped randomly variety shape of stars and snowflakes using different colored ink on top of each other. For second and third, I layered a white tag on top of my white card base and stamped on the layers at the same time. After finished all the stamping, I layered a grey colored tag in between. Regarding the stamping, I stamped the lined patterns from Tribal Bear Stamp set with grey pigment ink and stamped over the background with colorful dye inks and watercolor strokes. WFC-12-21-York Tee Tessa Wise Products: Notions Stamp Set, Doily Circle Stamp Set What Tessa Says: I started by stamping the doily circle with white pigment ink onto my white card base. I let it dry completely and then went over it with some light pink ink. The white ink resists the pink. Next I stamped the threads in some fun colors. Last, I added the sentiment with black ink. I embellished with a few little heart stickers to finish it off. WFC-12-21-Tessa Wise Hope you are inspired to try the stamp layering technique! Find time to create and make something today!

Marcie Sharp

Using a generic circle die as a mask, I masked off the centre of the card and watercoloured the light blue across the panel. Once dry, I removed it and used the negative part of the circle die to mask off the panel so I could focus on the central area of the card. Tiger & Lily coordinating dies were used with masking paper to create the island scene along with no-line watercolouring.

I used the leaves from Leafy Stamp Set, as I really liked the hanging leaves from the inspiration photo. At first, I masked the area with some posted notes, blended my background and then stamped the images slightly off-setting them... I wanted to achieve a more graphic modern look :)

on March 19, 2015
Hello everyone! Our friend Virgina is here to share photo tutorials for two beautiful cards she's made with us! We love the use of color on her cards and the ways she used our With Love Word Die! --- Dear Waffleflower friends, I am Virginia Lu from Yes, Virginia… blog. I am so honored to share my love of Waffle Flower Stamps with you today. I honestly had a hard time choosing which stamp set to use when I went about this guest design work. Her are what I came up with: Card #1 guest designer virginia lu photo #1
  1. Create several dies with the set called ”With Love Word Die
  2. Make bows with “Bowtiful” and DCWV paper
  3. Start with the strips of paper and bow in the middle
guest designer virginia lu photo #2
  1. Glue the dies
  2. Trim off the excess
  3. Adhere sequins and dies
  4. Make a bow with silver strings
guest designer virginia lu photo #3 (with bow) I also stamped a flower (from “In Every Way”) and added to the bow for the extra pop of color and interest. This card requires little stamping and I think anyone can create a card like this! Card #2 guest designer virginia lu photo #4
  1. Gather colorful inks and start stamping flowers with “In Every Way” stamps
  2. Make 2 dies with white and black card stock
  3. Glue them together, but slightly offset
guest designer virginia lu photo #5
  1. After stamping the flowers, position the die
  2. Use a paper-piercer and a rule, start piercing the holes
  3. Hand-stitching the sentiment with silver thread
guest designer virginia lu photo #6 (with flowers) Thank Waffle Flower for inviting me to guest design here! I had a blast playing with the Stamps and Dies. I know that I will continue to reach for them in the future. I am so happy that you stopped by to check out my guest design projects today! --- Thank you so much for sharing with us today, Virginia! [Watch It Wednesday] Painted & Stamped Stripe Background - Sabrina Alery

on February 25, 2015
DesignTeamHeadshots-Sabrina Perfect-Painted-Stripes-Waffle-Flower-Crafts-Sabrina-Alery-1 Hi guys! It’s Sabrina with your Watch it Wednesday video. Today I was in the mood for a little experimenting and tried out a background created by painting and stamping some simple stripes. Using supplies in a freehand sort of method, like painting, always makes me really nervous! Once you put it down on paper, there’s no repositioning or turning back. Perfect-Painted-Stripes-Waffle-Flower-Crafts-Sabrina-Alery-2 If that describes you too, don’t be afraid to experiment. You may end up with something that looks great and that you love! And if it’s not perfect, use my tricks for disguising those imperfections. ☺
