[Guest] Peaceful Fox by Lisa Spangler

on November 28, 2016
Hello, hello! It's Lisa here and I'm so excited to be guest blogging for Waffle Flower Crafts. I can hardly believe that December is almost upon us! I love making Christmas cards -- it's my favorite time of year. Even better? Making a BUNCH of cards all at once! wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler0 To get started, I grabbed the Wild & Free and Peace on Earth stamp sets and did a little stamp surgery on the "Peace on Earth" sentiment to cut off the dove. Don't get me wrong, I love doves and all but I wanted the FOX to be the star of this card. As a nature lover, that Wild & Free set really calls to me. I seem to want to use it on everything! Plus, using non-Christmas stamps for your cards is also a great way to get more from your supplies. If you've never done it before, stamp surgery is really easy to do -- just go slow, use sharp scissors, and be brave. Since the stamps are clear you can remount the dove on an acrylic block later if you want to use it the way it was intended. :) wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler2 I used this washi tape as inspiration for my ink colors -- love doing that, because then you can have a matching envelope later. I swatched out some colors and ended up going with a darker orangey red for the fox to make him really pop. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler3 The card fronts are all done on off-white paper that has little recycled bits in it -- I think it really goes with the nature theme. Plus the little bits are kinda like confetti. Or snow! I planned out my layout by stamping it by hand first on some scratch paper, then I pulled out my MISTI tool and stamped all the main parts. I stamped the "Peace on Earth" and Mr. Fox as part of the same step, then I heat embossed them with clear sparkle powder for that extra little something. The rest of the stamping is all un-embossed. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler4 I went in and stamped the dots and the tiny star by hand, so each card is a little different. I know the photo above with the MISTI shows the tiny details already stamped, but I was having so much fun I forgot to stop and take a photo, oops! :) wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler5 I layered the stamped pieces to a navy base card, and then it was time to add some sequins! I like to pour out some sequins in these little ceramic dishes as it helps to keep them from getting all over my desk. I bet you know how that goes! Now I thought I'd walk you through the finished card from top to bottom. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler6 Here's a closeup of the heat embossed peace sentiment so you can see that sparkly embossing powder. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler7 And here's Mr. Fox. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler8 Using the MISTI tool I was able to make six cards all at once -- and I could have kept going, too. wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler9 I decided to pair these cards with a mint envelope as I'm just loving mint these days. I put some of that inspirational washi tape on the back flap, even though the colors aren't an exact match. Here's one last look at the finished card: wfc-20161128-peacefox-lisaspangler10 Thank you so much for joining me, and to Waffle Flower for having me. I had so much fun and I can't wait to pop these cards in the mail. Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful Christmas, Lisa xo Supplies: Wild & Free Stamp Set Peace on Earth Stamp Set

[Guest] Wild Christmas Deer with Lisa Spangler

on November 21, 2016
Hello, hello! It's Lisa here and I'm so excited to be guest blogging for Waffle Flower Crafts! I'm going to be sharing a Christmas card, but with a Texas twist! You see, it's usually in the 80's and sunny at Christmas -- no snow here -- or if we do get some it all melts by noon. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa6 I'll be working with the Wild & Free and Peace on Earth sets to combine them into a merry warm weather Christmas card. Yep, all that greenery is from my yard -- it's really that green right now! wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa1 So, I started out by doing some stamp surgery on the deer from the Wild & Free set. I just grabbed a pair of sharp scissors and trimmed off the "Wild & Free" message plus one of the vines. This is a great way to get more from your stamps! You can easily put the stamp back together on an acrylic block and use it how it originally was. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa0 Then I positioned stamps from the Wild & Free and Peace on Earth sets on my MISTI and stamped them with copper ink on watercolor paper, then heat embossed them with copper powder. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa2 Next I went to town watercoloring the card with Distress inks. If you haven't done this before, you just swipe the inks on a non-porous surface such as this white plate, then pick up the color with a damp brush and color. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa3 Once the card was dry, I added some snowy white dots with Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof white. This is kind of an opaque ink that you can paint with and it works like magic! I've been using it a ton lately. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa4 I finished up the card by layering my stamped piece to a kraft notecard, and that was that! I thought about adding some sequins but decided to keep it clean and simple. wfc-20161121-wildchristmasdeer-lisa5 I think this card is great for making in batches, especially if you have a MISTI tool. Plus the card is flat for mailing, so no extra postage needed, yay! Thanks so much for joining me today, and hope you have a warm and cozy Christmas! xo Supplies: Wild & Free Stamp Set Peace on Earth Stamp Set

[Guest] Festive Friends and Stretching Your Stamps with Amy Yang

on November 07, 2016
Hello everyone!! It's Amy here today! I’m so happy to be guesting with Waffle Flower Crafts for the first time! Have you started making your holiday cards? I’m getting an early start this year because I’ve made so many new crafty friends through social media. I’d like to send each of them a special handmade card. wfc-20161014-merry-christmas-amy-1 For both my cards, I used Peace on Earth , Faye and Willy and Friends Stamp Set. I love working with critter stamps so I had fun pairing the bold and gorgeous holiday sentiments with the adorable monkeys to create my cards. wfc-20161014-merry-christmas-and-happy-new-year-amy-2 For my first card, I stamped and colored the images using copic markers. I kept the card design simple to let the characters and the sentiment stand out. One thing I did do here is stretch my stamps by making small changes to the characters using my copic friendly pen. I drew some lines and dots to create dressy outfits for the monkeys, it’s that simple. Don’t they make an adorable couple ready for a Holiday Party! Photo 3 20161014-merry-christmas-and-happy-new-year-amy-4P For my second card, it’s pretty much the same thing with a different color scheme and sentiment. Once again, I colored the images with copic markers. I added glossy accent to the heart for shine and dimension.   wfc-20161014-merry-christmas-amy-5 Thank you for stopping by today!!! [WIW Video] Make Fun Shaker Ornaments with Laura Bassen

on September 21, 2016
designteamheadshots_lauraHello everyone! Laura here! I've created three shaker ornaments using the Dimensional Frame Die. I punched a hole in the top of my Frame die cut so that I could add string to create an ornament. emma-ornaments The Dimensional Frame Die works perfectly to create shakers filled with sequins of all sizes as well as seed beads. I used a sentiment from Peace on Earth to make these a festive holiday gift, but these could really be customized for any occasion or theme under the sun. I love the idea of adding a photo to the back as well for a fun, unique gift idea. shaker-ornaments-side

[Video] Merry Christmas Lights Card by Tessa

The bubbles from Shower Stamp Set along with our pretty dye inks made a perfect Christmas lights background. Once my background was stamped, I heat embossed my sentiment from the Peace on Earth Stamp Set with white powder. I added a boarder from the largest Pinking Layers Die and fun jingle bells to finish off the look. wfc-wiw-9-14-tessa-wise --- Supplies --- - Shower Stamp Set - Peace on Earth Stamp Set - Pinking Layers Die - Inks (You Said What, Chirp Chirp, New Fish In Pond, My Pleasure, Happy Go Lucky)
