DIY Monogram Keychains - Katie Gehring

Hello friends, Katie here with an easy DIY project- monogram keychains. Monogrammed items are timeless and with Waffle Flower Craft’s Jumbo letter dies and some felt or even leather or suede, they are simple to make too. To make the circle keychain tags, I die cut 2- 4” felt circles. I also cut the scalloped layer with the Flower Circles Inverted die. I placed the alphabet die on top of one of the felt circles and ran it through my Big Kick. I used a backstitch to stitch the around outline of the letter. I cut some extra letters from different colored felt and experimented with some different color combinations before selecting the final colors. Before I adhered the layers together, I cut a small length of grosgrain ribbon, looped it through a metal key ring and sandwiched it between the layers. There are many glues that work well with felt, but I’ve had good experience with Alene’s original Tacky Glue. It’s widely available, inexpensive and does the job. I am planning to attach these monogram tags to my daughters’ backpacks when they head back to school next month. My next monogram keychain is dressed up a bit in suede. I found a thin piece of suede at my local Hobby Lobby and was very excited that it was easy to die cut with the Jumbo Letter dies. For the Keychain shape, I used the Surface- Tag Die- Starter Kit. I die cut two of the tag shapes from the felt and die cut the letter from one of the tags. I stitched around the outline of the letter. As it came time for assembly, I decided the suede could use a bit more body, so I die cut a felt tag and sandwiched the suede on either side. I used Beacon 527 Multi Use Glue to hold all the layers together. Since I was using a light color suede, I also used a Copic marker to color the thin inner letter portion rather than investing in multiple colors of suede. To add a little more stability, I reinforced the keyring tag with a silver eyelet. I am planning to try this design out with leather- I just need to find leather that’s the right thickness. I think these will make great holiday gifts for my coworkers and colleagues this year. Well that’s all for me today.
