Take a Challenge with Amanda Coleman (Enter by June 21)

on June 15, 2015
DesignTeamHeadshots_AmandaHi everyone!  Amanda here today with my take on the June Waffle Flower Challenge.  This bright, playful photo lends itself to so many fun interpretations.
June Challenge Card Squares
I am crazy about the arrangement of the ombre canvases in the June Challenge inspiration photo.  While brainstorming a way to mimic the overlapping, curled canvases, I spotted a stack of sticky notes on my desk.  These little sticky notes were the perfect size for a card, and consequently, the perfect size for the scribble and sentiments from the Doily Square Stamp Set.

Using Waffle Flower chalk inks, I stamped several different colors onto sticky notes and played around with the arrangement of the on the front of the card.  Once I settled on an arrangement that I was happy with, I stamped the sentiment on the top square.
June Challenge Card Squares 3Picking the colors for this card was the most fun!  I chose colors based on the inspiration photo, but this card would look equally as lovely using another color palette.  I used #5 from theSpring Blend Inkpad and #9, 10, 12, 13, and 16 from the Summer Blend Inkpad.

Gently curl up the ends of each sticky note with a pencil before affixing them to the card.  This will help the ends of the sticky notes spring up like the canvases in the inspiration photo.
June Challenge Card Squares 2
Add some movement to the card by stamping a few dashes here and there.  These lines may be little, but they can have a big impact on the visual balance of a card.

Have fun with the June Challenge!  I can't wait to see what you make!
Thank you for sharing your talent with us, Amanda! Now we need to go and roll some paper! LOL

Five for Friday - A Tribute to Daddy

on May 22, 2015
DesignTeamHeadshots-LorenaCantoHey everyone! Lorena here with a new installment of our Five for Friday feature. June is almost here, and that means many of you will soon be celebrating Father’s Day, so I thought a little tribute to all daddies was in order. Today, I chose images that either spoke to my heart, made me laugh or sparked ideas for Father’s Day cards and gifts. Enjoy!
  1. A beautiful image. I think this one doesn’t need words… Such a strong and meaningful caption!

  1. I love this hammer gift idea! It’s perfect for the Mr Fix It All in your life and the perfect complement for this gift would be (guess it?) a handmade card with our Hey Mr stamp set. It has the perfect images for Father’s Day!

  1. Many men have a sweet tooth, and this cupcakes fit the bill perfectly for the celebration. I’ll have one myself, please ;)

  1. Baking is not your thing? I’ve got you covered, too! Here’s another sweet and super easy idea that can be perfectly replicated with our Bowtiful stamp set, Bowtiful Additions stamp set and Bowtiful dies.

  1. Finally, a gift that made me laugh. I think one of the best bonds that can develop between a father and his children is the sense of humor.

The occasion, of course, calls for a card! I know many crafters struggle when it comes to masculine cards. Want my opinion? Stop worrying! Men won’t notice that the cardstock doesn’t coordinate perfectly with that enamel dot, they won’t notice that super duper tiny ink smudge, they won’t notice that you didn’t use the latest and greatest and trendiest stamp set. Instead, what they will notice is that their beloved daughter, granddaughter, wife, daughter in law or whatever is giving them a handmade card crafted with love. That’s the only thing that matters :) That said, here’s my card for today. It’s a one layer card! father card 1 I combined the tools, stars and “Dad” sentiment from Hey Mr stamp set with the solid scribble from Doily Square stamp set and the “It’s your day!” from Congrats stamp set. That scribble is SO perfect for grounding a sentiment or other images! father card 2First, I stamped the scribble and the sentiment. Then I masked the scribble and stamped the tools and stars (Waffle Flower inks used: 1/New Leaf, 13/Malibu and 16/Sunshine) As a last touch I glittered the bigger stars using a silver Wink of Stella pen. The glitter doesn’t show well in the pics, but it’s there! Thank you so much for stopping by and happy weekend! – Lorena Thank you for sharing with us today, Lorena! We love that you mixed our newest sets with Hey Mr. Stamp Set from our very first release! :) You are so right about what guys care about a card! LOL Find time to create and make something today!

Blog-hop-badge-Faber-Castell-Waffle-Flower The fun of doing what we do is to try different things, right? We have Lorena here with a bonus project for you! DesignTeamHeadshots-LorenaCanto Hello and happy weekend, friends! Lorena here to close this fabulous week full of inspiration with Waffle Flower Crafts and Faber Castell Design Memory Craft. I had a blast pairing their awesome products together! Let me show you what I did: WFC-Faber Castell 1 For my project, I wanted to give a try to the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens and after experimenting a bit with them, I thought they would work really well for the “smooshing” technique that is all the rage lately. So I scribbled with three different colors (Violet, Cold Gray and Flesh) on a piece of acetate, sprayed it with water and smooshed a piece of cardstock on the acetate… and magic happened! I love, love that kind of marbled look! WFC-Faber Castell 2 Once the cardstock was dry, I stamped and heat embossed a sentiment from Doily Square stamp set. To ground the sentiment, I used the triangles strip from Pattern Play stamp set. This time, I used the Stamper’s Big Brush Pens in Violet, Cold Gray and White to color straight on the stamp and the result was pretty cool, too! WFC-Faber Castell 3To make the butterfly, I played around with Gelatos in Guava, Raspberry and Silver. I started by scribbling with the gelatos on a piece of linen cardstock and blended the colors with my finger. Then, I used the colored piece to die cut the Tiny Wings die. I also cut it a few times from vellum and then adhered all the tiny butterflies together. The texture and dimension on this little embellishment are fab! WFC-Faber Castell 4I finished the card adhering a piece of silver shimmer paper to the card base, and then adhered the focal piece with foam tape. Thank you so much for stopping by and I hoped you enjoyed this last project! Don’t forget to come back on Monday to check the giveaway winners!
